Search Engine Optimization Basics
Search engine optimization is generally applied in two areas: 'on-page' and 'off-page'.
- On-page optimization consists of all the elements on your website that search engines
use to evaluate how relevant your website is to a particular search phrase. This includes
the content, meta-tags, and link structure among other things. - Off-page optimization refers to the number and quality of links pointing to your website.
This is also known as 'link popularity'. While on-page optimization helps search engines
to determine what your website is about, link popularity enhances your actual placement
in the search engine results. Search engines consider a link to your website a 'vote' from
other websites. It is the combination of both on and off-page optimization that results in
successful search engine rankings.
Our optimization packages can be developed to meet your individual needs and may include
some or all of the following services:
- Installment and access to custom tracking software to determine traffic flow and patterns.
Displays traffic volume over time for each search engine and which search phrases are leading
people to your website. Also tracks your current ranking for a list of keyword phrases in each
search engine.
- Detailed keyword research including recent keyword popularity and competition for each major
search engine (Google, Yahoo, MSN). This will allow us to find and target the least competitive
search phrases that are relevant to your website.
- Optimization of on-page elements including page titles, H1, and meta-tags for each page based
on keyword research.
- Analysis and possible improvements to internal link structure. (Link structure helps to ensure
that search engines can find all pages of your website.)
- Creation and submission of search engine specific sitemaps. These act as a detailed guide to
instruct search engines about the location and importance of each of your webpages.
- Submission to web directories. This will increase your link popularity as well as drive traffic to
your website.
- Syndication of articles and/or press releases (if provided by client) to publishers and news feeds.
Articles and press releases will contain a byline about the author and link back to your website.
This further enhances link popularity and search engine visibility.
- Installment of a blog and RSS feed to provide fresh content on a regular basis. Search engines
love new content and so do your visitors. Quickly and easily add content to your website through
a blog.
- We can also create and manage your Google Adwords campaign, a popular pay-per-click
advertising program.
